Privacy Policy

This policy explains what dublintourism.org collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the site as it actually operates on 10 September 2026, and will be updated when that changes.

Who is responsible

Dublin Tourism Guide is an independent travel information site written and run by Joseph Maxwell, who is the data controller for personal data processed through it. You can reach us through the contact page.

What is collected

Reading the guides

You do not need an account and there is nothing to sign up for. Reading a guide requires no personal information from you.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard web-server logs for every request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, browser and operating system. These are kept for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults, and are not used to build a profile of you.

The contact form

If you write to us, the form collects the name, email address and message you type in. That information is used to read and answer your message and to act on any correction you report. It is not added to a mailing list, and it is not sold, rented or shared for marketing. Messages are kept only as long as they are useful — normally deleted within twelve months.

Comments

Comments are closed across this site. No comment form is displayed and no comment data is collected.

There is no newsletter and no email list.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit plugin, to see which guides get read and how people arrive. It sets cookies and sends Google information about your visit, including a truncated IP address, the pages you view and general location at city level. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual readers from it, and no analytics data is sold.

We also use Google Search Console, which reports on search queries that reach the site. It shows aggregate figures only and does not identify you.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser opt-out add-on, by blocking cookies in your browser settings, or by using a browser or extension that blocks analytics scripts.

Advertising on this site runs through Mediavine, which operates a Google-certified consent management platform. Where the law requires consent — the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — it shows a banner on a first visit and does not load advertising partners until you have answered it. You can reopen it later through the consent link in the site footer. Elsewhere the banner is not shown, because the law does not require it.

That platform covers the advertising partners. Our own Google Analytics tag is separate from it, and the browser-level opt-outs described above are the most reliable way to keep analytics cookies off your device.

Advertising

This site carries display advertising. The ads are sold and served by Mediavine, through its Journey programme. We do not choose the individual ads you see, and advertisers have no say in what we write.

Mediavine and the advertising partners it works with may set cookies and similar identifiers to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether an ad was seen. Where the law requires your permission first, they are not loaded until you give it.

Mediavine’s own privacy notice appears at the foot of this page and governs what Mediavine collects. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can change your advertising choices at any time through the consent link in the site footer. If you are in a US state that gives you a right to opt out, a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link appears at the bottom of the page. You can also opt out of personalised advertising through Google’s Ads Settings, and out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.

You can delete or block cookies through your browser’s settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything on this site.

Who else sees your data

Data reaches these third parties in the course of running the site: our hosting provider, which stores server logs and any form submissions; Google, for analytics and Search Console; Mediavine and the advertising partners it works with, for the advertising on the site; and our email delivery provider, which transmits form submissions to our inbox. Each has its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if legally required to.

Links to other sites

Guides link to operators, ticketing sites, transport planners and Irish public bodies. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site under their privacy policy, and this one no longer applies.

International transfers

Google and our other service providers may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States, under the safeguards those providers put in place — standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold is a message you sent us. Write to us through the contact page and we will act on the request within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your own country; in Ireland this is the Data Protection Commission.

If you are in California, or another US state with comparable rights, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to ask for its deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Advertising involves passing information to advertising partners in ways those laws may treat as a sale or a share. Where that right applies, a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link appears at the bottom of the page, and using it tells Mediavine and its partners to stop.

Children

This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and it will be deleted.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and kept up to date. No website can promise perfect security, but we do not store payment details, passwords or documents, so there is very little here to lose.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes materially — a new analytics tool, a different advertising network, a change in what is collected — the date at the top will be updated and the relevant section rewritten to describe what is actually happening.
